Andy Gillespie
Edinburgh Counsellor and Psychotherapist

About Me

I am an experienced counsellor with a background in the Humanistic Therapies, which includes Person Centred, Emotion Focused, Mindfulness and Cognitive Behavioural therapies. Having spent a significant portion of my career in the High Technology industries I have a particular interest in situational and work-related depression which was the focus of my Master’s thesis.  The study of philosophy is a personal passion which I find highly relevant in our endeavours towards improved mental health and a better understanding of ourselves and the world around us.

For me, the counselling process is highly individual, and we will focus on an approach and pace that will suit you.  Although my practice is grounded in the person-centred theoretical model, which revolves around a facilitation of the persons own innate tendency towards health and personal development, we may choose to work with other complimentary therapeutic processes, for example mindfulness and meditation, dream analysis and art to name but a few.  Above all we will develop a personalised framework for our work together.

My training is grounded in the Person-Centred approach (COSCA Skills and Pg. Dip. University of Stirling). I have a Master’s degree in Counselling and Psychotherapy from the University of East London where my work focused on Adjustment Disorders. In addition, I have completed training in Emotion Focused Therapy at the University of Strathclyde and have experience with Cognitive Based Therapies (CBT) and Mindfulness.

I have worked in a variety of support settings helping people with depression, anxiety, stress, addiction and relational issues in both affluent and deprived communities. I also have first-hand experience with the management of chronic ill health and find this helpful when working with clients with health concerns.

I have experience and familiarity with the following conditions: Depression; Anxiety; Grief/Bereavement; Addiction; Relational issues; Trauma, both physical and mental; Bullying; Self-esteem issues; Health related depression and/or anxiety.

I am a registered member of the British Association of for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).  I also hold a membership of the Protecting Vulnerable Groups Scheme (PVG).

A counselling session will last up to 50 minutes for which the fee will be £50. Payments can be made by cash or card.

I work from the Life Academy Wellbeing Centre at 3B Greenhill Park, Bruntsfield, Edinburgh EH10 4DW. The Centre is situated in a transport hub and is easily accessible by bus or car. Free, private parking is available on request.
