Edinburgh Psychotherapist and Counsellor

About Me

Presence, kindness, understanding, and acceptance, from professionals and loved ones alike, have been a steadying force for me throughout my life. These qualities have helped me to connect to and better understand myself, my relationships, and the sets of circumstances which life has delivered along the way, enabling me to find wisdom from understanding, the capacity for making positive changes, and healthy ways to cope with and integrate that which can’t be changed.

I have walked many paths, and know suffering and loss intimately. I firmly believe that we all have an innate capacity for healing, and this is at the heart of my therapeutic work and my living.

My therapeutic approach seeks to honour the individual while supporting the inherent health of our whole being: mentally; physically; emotionally; energetically; and relationally.

Our life experiences and circumstances, and our inner relationship to those, are unique, so my approach is a pluralistic one. This means I draw on the perspectives and practices from a range of modalities and therapies, to create a unique synthesis of support for each person which respects and meets with their current circumstances and readiness. I also incorporate spiritual perspectives and ecopsychology in pathways to healing for clients who are interested in these approaches.

I have undertaken extensive training and development in humanistic, psychodynamic, and transpersonal theories in counselling and psychotherapy. I am also a highly experienced embodiment therapist, trained bodyworker, and yoga therapist, and offer integrative therapeutic approaches incorporating these practices and perspectives when appropriate.

Specific therapies drawn on include:

• Psychodynamic therapy

• Person-centred therapy

• Psychosynthesis

• Solution-focused brief therapy

• Transpersonal therapy

• Somatic therapy

• Mindfulness therapy

• Eco-pscyhotherapy

• Compassion-focused therapy

• Cognitive behavioural therapy

• Interpersonal therapy

• Yoga therapy

I am a fully qualified counsellor and psychotherapist with an MA(Hons) from the University of St. Andrews and a Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling from the University of Edinburgh. I have been working towards a Professional Doctorate in Psychotherapy with the University of Edinburgh for several years, and expect to be awarded this in late 2019.

Throughout my years in practice, I have undertaken many trainings, certifications, and supervision and mentoring programmes, as well as attending research and practice conferences. I am committed to the highest levels of professionalism, and regularly attend CPD trainings and events to enhance my therapeutic offerings and to keep up-to-date with the latest research findings.
